St. Brendan's Hospital
Location
District mental hospital located in Dublin North Central. In line with Board policy and development of community and rehabilitation services, the in-patient beds at St. Brendan's have been scaled down. Number of patients 1986 = 987.Bed Numbers
There are currently 170 beds with the following range of services.Services Provided
This consists of two units with 32 female and 27 male beds, taking admissions from Cabra and Finglas.Special Care Services
This consists of four units 2 male, 2 female, 52 beds. They provide a very valuable service for patients who present with challenging/disturbed behaviour who cannot be contained or managed in acute wards or other services.Continuing Care
For patients who require a continuing period of hospitalisation and rehabilitation.
Homeless Service
St. Brendan's provides services for people who have mental illness and are homeless. One 12 bed admission unit plus a day centre located in Usher's Island.Rehabilitation Service
We have a number of rehabilitation hostels in the immediate area close to St. Brendan's Hospital.Future Developments
The future requirements of St. Brendan's Hospital will be on a smaller site within the existing complex. In the longer term the only remaining services on site will be:30 bed rehabilitation unit
50 bed community unit for elderly
15 bed unit for the homeless

In-Service Training
We hold regular In-Service training with two modules x two weeks every year. Topics covered include management/prevention of violence, breakaway techniques, cardio pulmonary resuscitation, health & safety, manual handling, fire safety and pharmacology.Rosters
Core staff work alternate days i.e. 8a.m. - 8.40p.m. both hospital and community based.9a.m. – 5pm. Night duty roster is week on/week off approximately every six weeks.Address: Rathdown, Road, Dublin 7
